Scenario
You have just been hired as an HR manager of an organization that manufactures women apparel. This firm has never had an HR department. It has experienced steady growth during the last few years. Its workforce is comprised of 800 employees and 20 managers. The organizational structure involves the division of work according to different departmental functions such as Production, R&D, Marketing, Finance, and HRM. Due to its growth, members of the Board of Directors had placed pressure on top management to hire an HR manager a position that you have been selected to fill.
As the new HR manager your first goal is to convince top management of the need to make you, the HR manager, a strategic partner. You have decided to prepare a report which comprises the assignment for this course/module. (Your report should reflect confident, detailed, comprehensive knowledge of the HR discipline. Where appropriate it should also display evidence of originality and innovation).
In your report, you are required to:
1. Critically examine the role of strategic HR management with respect to organizational performance, citing empirical evidence and specific organizations’ success stories. You should explicitly define ‘strategic human resource management’s and distinguish between different types of HR strategies and how they can and should align with competitive business strategies.
2. Present a detailed, comprehensive plan of how you will specifically address each core HR function (e.g. work design, job analysis, recruitment, selection, retention, separation, performance management, training, development, compensation, legal requirements, and employee relations) to create a high performance work system (HPWS).
3. Present your evaluation of the challenges and opportunities involved with respect to diversity, Emiratization and managing ab international workforce, and explain how you plan to help the firm to practically prepare for these challenges and opportunities.
4. Demonstrate (within the report) a comprehensive understanding and appreciation of the importance of relevant legal issues related to HR management and organizational performance in the context of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The report in essence should reflect your personal vision as to what HRM issues are important and need to be identified and properly addressed.

Avoiding plagiarism
The word plagiarism comes from a Latin word for ‘kidnapper’. Plagiarism means you are kidnapping or stealing someone else’s ideas or words and presenting them as if they were your own. If you copy an article from an encyclopedia and make some minor changes to pass it off as your own writing, you are plagiarizing deliberately. If you carelessly forget to include quotation marks or a reference to show whose words or ideas you are using, you are plagiarizing accidentally. Whether deliberate or accidental, plagiarism is a serious offence in scholarship.
It is not plagiarism, however, to use other writers’ material when you acknowledge whose material it is. That procedure is a part of honest research writing. Avoid plagiarism by acknowledging sources when necessary and by using them accurately and fairly.

Similarities and Differences between American and European Values

Different cultures have different values and reconciling these values is one of the most frustrating elements of foreign policy. Understanding and evaluating values is extremely important when it comes to influencing the conduct of a nation’s affairs. Even amongst cultures that share the majority of their values, such as the United States and the countries of Western Europe, there may be differences of opinion regarding the relative importance of particular values. In November, 2011, the Pew Research Center conducted a poll based on American and Western European values.

AND WHEREAS, The Bahamas still maintains one of the lowest ages of criminal responsibility in the world where a child as young as 10 years old can be tried as an adult and be subject to an adult sentence in adult facilities that are often overcrowded, unsanitary, harsh, unsafe, neglectful, unconstitutional and overly punitive.

For Composition #2, I would like you to write an essay in which you use two or more of the assigned readings below to explore your own relationship to “Place.” Maybe you are somebody who feels very rooted in a particular “homeplace,” or maybe you are somebody who is filled with “wanderlust” or love of the open road. Maybe you are somebody who has lived in several places but feels especially “at home” in one. Or maybe the thought of staying in one place for a long time seems stifling to you. The following questions are meant to help you think about this topic, but you do note need to answer every one. Use them to help you shape an essay in which you use your own ideas and experiences to explore the concepts the writers discuss and vice versa. Make the essay creative and interesting, both in the ideas it presents and in the way it presents them.

Questions: if you have a “homeplace,” or another sort of place where you feel “rooted,” what is it? What is your connection to this place? And what role does nature play in your connection? Assignment: Respond to the fellow classmate’s forum response as if you are a classmate giving your positive/negative opinions/views of their post. USE THE UPLOADED MATERIAL FOR RESPONSE EXAMPLES. Their instructions for their post from the syllabus are in the following parentheses: (“Douglas McGregor first wrote about Theory X and Theory Y in his book “The Human Side of Enterprise” published in 1960. McGregor came up with two theories regarding management styles, X and Y. During this time, it was common for managers and supervisors to believe that employees hated work, needed to be strictly controlled, and would only do the very minimum required of them unless they were constantly monitored (Cutler, p. 56). McGregor coined this leadership style as Theory X–an authoritarian management style that focuses on micromanagement and little concern for the employees as people with thoughts or feelings.
Theory Y was a very different categorization. Managers who followed the Theory Y leadership style were more willing to delegate, supported and encouraged their team of employees, were able to trust others and were trusted in return, and worked towards creating a rewarding working environment (Cutler, p. 57).

In every job I have ever worked, I constantly faced supervisors who followed Theory X to the letter. It was assumed that because I was a lower ranking individual that I was automatically lazy and didn’t care about the outcome of the work assigned to me. Such a stigma made me start to detest going to work, because it felt as though nothing I ever did would be enough to satisfy those in charge, regardless of how much effort I put in to it.

Personally, I am more likely to follow Theory Y. I know what it feels like to have someone higher up constantly tell you that you’re not good enough, always looking over your shoulder at whatever it is you’re doing. I want to do whatever I can to make sure that people come to work in a good environment.
